Café 2001 sits comfortably in the heart of the Arts District, offering a quiet retreat from the surrounding industrial buzz of E 7th Street. More than just your average coffee stop, this spot draws a mix of locals who appreciate quality coffee paired with an unhurried atmosphere. With its emphasis on drip coffee—sometimes featuring unique single-origin beans like Papua New Guinea—and thoughtful touches like steamed milk or a cherry-infused version, it caters well to anyone who values a carefully prepared cup.

The space encourages lingering, with comfortable seating choices that invite you to settle in for a while. Classical music sets a subtle, almost meditative tone, making it a good spot for readers, remote workers, or small groups engaged in conversation without the usual café chatter. The vibe is calm but not sterile, striking a balance that keeps things relaxed but not sleepy.

Beyond coffee, the food menu reveals a surprising range of quality dishes that locals return for. From savory items like lamb moussaka and terrine plates to more delicate offerings such as smoked trout or sardines, the kitchen leans towards creative yet approachable flavors, attracting visitors who might come in initially for a caffeine fix but end up staying for a full meal. The inclusion of options like katsu sando and egg salad sandwiches also shows a willingness to blend casual and refined tastes.

Evenings here take on a slightly different pulse, with a concise beer and wine list that complements the food without overwhelming the easygoing environment. Attentive service helps balance the quietude, making sure guests feel welcome without the rush.

This spot suits those who want a coffee experience that goes beyond quick takeaway—ideal for mid-morning to late afternoon visits when you can savor both the drinks and food while soaking in the Arts District ambiance. Whether you're popping in alone with a laptop, meeting a friend for a relaxed brunch, or enjoying a low-key happy hour, Café 2001 offers a measured, thoughtful environment that reflects the neighborhood’s shift toward elevated everyday dining.

Don't sleep on this newish Arts District eatery. The drip coffee is really good - they had Papua new guinea last time I was there. The food is really good here, I only go when I have time to linger because it's hard to leave. The seats are comfortable and they play classical music all day. My favorite items to order here are the Lamb Moussaka, the terrine plates, the smoked trout, the sardines, lemon tart, passion fruit tart and the chocolate cookies.

If you haven’t been here yet, you’re missing out! I’ve been twice and tried four different dishes, and every single one was delicious and had its own unique flavor. The acidity in the dishes is just right, reminding me of meals I’ve had in Copenhagen or Tokyo. The food quality is just as good as (if not better than) high end spots in LA, and the wine selection is great too. Highly recommend this bistro/cafe!

Very happy this place exists. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Got the fig tart which was impeccable, the pastry was bang on. The pork katsu was cooked to perfection, and sauce on it was a horseradishy kick which I was VERY into. Also had the egg salad Sando which was simply amazing. Cannot wait to come back!

Café 2001 is a total gem. The katsu sando is hands-down one of the best in LA, and the hojicha latte was smooth and unforgettable. I also loved the cherry tart—beautiful and not too sweet. Service was warm and thoughtful. Whether you’re coming for coffee, brunch, or happy hour, this place nails it. Can’t wait to come back!

Massive vibes, immaculate food, attentive service by Andrew. Juiciest fried chicken and gourmet dumplings tapped into my soul and guided me straight to euphoria.

Casual lunch with friend. What a pleasant surprise! We ordered the tonnata and the duck, as well as the chocolate and passion fruit tarts. Everything was excellent: the tonnata was perfectly smooth and savoury and the green tomato and celery brought freshness and lightness to the dish. The richness of duck was deliciously complemented by the sparkling acidity of the accompanying kumquats, mild bitterness of the radicchio, and savoury unctuosity of the squash and green olives; the accompanying sauce bound everything together with gusto. This dish had all the components to make THE perfect bite. Very well executed. The tarts too were worth writing home about: perfectly crispy crust, just the right amount of sweetness, the chocolate was satisfyingly dense and intense; the tangy/crackly passion fruit was well-balanced by a light yet flavorful custard. Looking forward to returning soon.

Came here with my husband and loved everything we got! Not too many gluten free options but got the Falafel salad which was exactly what I wanted. My husband got the jelly donut and enjoyed every second of it. He also got the avocado toast w/ kohlrabi and thought it was “phenomenal.” Prices are typical for what you would expect in LA (not overpriced as some people mentioned), cool vibes, friendly staff, would def recommend to others!

The venue somehow gave me that retro warehouse vibe. It's super aesthetic with rays of natural light. The menu somehow felt like featuring Japanese theme with obviously various coffee and tea based drinks. They did serve some brunch menu and several pastries including tarts. Having the matcha canele displayed next to the checkout made me unable to skip it. Other than prolly too much matcha powder on top of it making it kinda powdery, this petite pastry was little pleasure! Crunchy coating, gooey and chewy center, with great balance of sweetness and slight matcha bitterness. I got their iced Hojicha Latte, which got me pleased. The only downsides were it's tad grainy, besides I wish they had either almond or soy milk beyond just whole and oat milk. Beyond those two, it was impressive with solid roasted tea flavor.
